If you didn't pass the initial credit screen, you still have two paths to start service in Texas: pay a refundable deposit or request a PUCT-mandated deposit waiver if you qualify.
Pay the required deposit directly to the Customer Service Center by phone after enrollment.
Deposits are typically up to two months of service, accrue interest, and may be refunded after 12 months of on-time payments (see your REP's TOS).
If you qualify under PUCT rules, your Retail Electric Provider must waive the deposit when you submit the correct documentation.
If any of the following apply—good payment history, age 65+, or victim of family violence—you can request a deposit waiver from your REP.
